Saline Removal

Microblading and other permanent makeup treatments can be amazing to one's self confidence if done correctly.  Unfortunately, this is not always the case and it may not look like you were expecting or can go horribly wrong.

If you didn't choose the right microblading or permanent makeup artist, we are here for you. Saline removal is a non-laser tattoo removal method. It is gentle on the skin and perfect for removing permanent makeup, microblading, permanent eyeliner, lip line tattoos, (tattooed) freckles and beauty marks.

We have been removing permanent makeup for years and are considered one of London's most experienced removal technicians using the non-laser saline removal method.

What is saline removal?

Saline removal is a unique method of permanent makeup pigment removal which is designed to completely remove pigments from the body. It's done using a sterile saline solution (salt water).

The saline solution is all natural and contains no acids or harmful chemicals.

How does it work?

The solution is tattooed into the pigmented area. The formula then  starts the process of osmosis, where the salts in the liquid pull out water in the skin, and with it, taking the pigment molecules.

After the treatment is finished, the skin will return to its natural state over a period of several weeks.

Typically, several sessions are  required to completely remove a tattoo. The amount will depend on the colours, depth of pigment and saturation (how dense it is).

Why choose Saline Removal?

Saline removal is less painful than laser!

You won't get burns or blisters from saline removal.

Saline removal is much cheaper than laser!

Often, saline requires less treatment sessions than laser tattoo removal.

Saline can remove ALL colours! laser can only remove certain colours, depending on frequency of the machine.

Saline removal can remove small sections to correct shape.

Saline is gentle enough for the face and eyes.

No need to shave your eyebrows and hair won't be damaged- in fact, it may grow back better!

Things to Consider Before Removal

If you have considered the below, but really HATE your permanent makeup, please get in touch. We can remove permanent makeup on an emergency basis up to 48 hours after the treatment was done.

Never try to remove or fade or remove pigment at home. This can lead to further damage of your skin and can make the problem worse.

Shape

Sometimes the shape can be a little off due to puffiness or swelling.

Colour

Remember, when permanent makeup is just done, the colour will be dark. This will last for a few days. It will fade when healed.

Size

There may be some slight swelling in the first few days after permanent makeup. Brows may look thicker than the way they will heal.

Does it Fit Your Face

Are you happy with the work that was done? Does it suit your face?

Faded Colour

When the healed colour is red, blue or any other colours, you can sometimes get it colour corrected, rather than get removal.

Saturation

When the colour of the brow is too saturated (too dense), you may not be able to fix it. Only removal is an option.

Permanent Makeup Removal FAQs

  • What is saline removal?

Saline removal is a method of tattoo and permanent makeup removal that involves tattooing the pigmented area with a highly concentrated saline solution.

The salt in the solution is implanted into the skin and will start to pull water out of the skin. The pigment molecules get picked up by the water and leave the body through the scab.

  • Does saline removal hurt?

Sometimes clients will feel a burning sensation when getting removal done, and some feel nothing at all.

After the session, it may feel like sunburn. The soreness usually only lasts for a few hours.

  • What will I look like after permanent makeup removal?

You can expect a bit of redness, puffiness and soreness at the area that was treated. The swelling and redness normally goes down within a few hours.

It will scab after a few days. This can be very light to crusty.

  • How many sessions will it take to remove permanent makeup?

It's very hard to say exactly how many sessions will be needed to remove a tattoo or permanent makeup. This will depend on the colour(s), the depth of the pigment and the saturation (how dense) it is.

Results will vary from person to person. It is normal to not see very visible results after the first session, so we always recommend starting with 2 sessions.

  • Why do I have to wait 6 weeks in between removal sessions?

Even though the skin may appear to be healed, we want to make sure that your skin is completely healed before working on it again.

Because everyone heals at different rates, we like to be on the safe side.

  • Do I have to shave my eyebrows to get removal?

Nope! This is one of the benefits of getting saline removal over laser.

  • Will I lose my eyebrow hair with saline removal?

Nope! All of your brow hairs stay the way they are. You won’t need to shave them off and they wont fall out because of the treatment. If any hair does fall out, it's because it is the end of it's life cycle and it will come back. In fact, sometimes saline removal helps hair grow back better.

  • Will I get burns or blisters from saline removal?

Nope! All of your brow hairs stay the way they are. You won’t need to shave them off and they won’t fall out because of the treatment.

  • Will saline removal work on tattoos?

Yes, saline removal is best for small tattoos. If they are bigger ones and you wish not to have laser, it will be done in sections of around 8cm x 8cm.

Saline removal is great for pieces of tattoo that you need lightened or removed too as laser is not as precise.

  • Can you fix my eyebrows after getting them lightened?

Yes! In cases where you would like to keep permanent makeup on your brows, but want to change the shape or colour, we can do removal until it's light enough to fix.

Dana can walk you through how it works and make recommendations for the best course of action for you.

  • Will saline removal cause scarring or discoloration of the skin?

The treatment itself will not scar you, however if there is scar tissue left behind from previously, this may be 'uncovered'.

For those with darker skin tones, there is a risk of hyper and hypo pigmentation, so be sure to tell us if you have scars that are lighter or darker than your natural skin tone.

  • How does emergency removal work?

Emergency removals can only be done up to 48 hours after the treatment was originally done. It can be used on tattoos or permanent makeup.

No machines are involved in emergency removals as the skin is still 'open' from the treatment. The saline solution will be applied to the area and within a few days, it will scab and lift.

There is never a guarantee as to how much pigment will come out, but emergency removals tend to be quite effective and will usually remove much more than a regular removal session.

  • Will tattoo removal leave scars?

There is always a risk of scarring anytime the skin is broken, however,  unless you have existing scars (covered by pigment) or do not follow after care, typically saline tattoo removal will not cause scarring.

Those with darker skin tones are more susceptible to keloid scarring. It's important to let us know if you've had keloid scarring before.

  • What is the saline solution used?

We use Li-ft saline solution for lightening/ removing tattoos and permanent makeup.

  • What are the ingredients for the saline solution?

Water, Pacific Sea Salt, Orange Flower Extract, Lemon Extract in Water, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, calendula extract, hydroxyethylcellulose, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate.
