Frequently Aksed Questions

 General Questions

  • What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup (or PMU) can be referred to as cosmetic tattooing, semi permanent makeup, micro pigmentation or even microblading. These are all words that describe the same thing: an aesthetic treatment that involves implanting pigment into the skin.

It is very similar to tattooing. Sometimes people even refer to a treatment as an eyebrow tattoo or lip tattoo. The pigments (inks) are designed to look very natural. But, unlike tattoos, they won't last forever and will fade over time. The pigment is visible for approximately two to three years.

Permanent Makeup is non-surgical, it is non-invasive and it requires no down time. It's painless and is fairly quick to do. You can do it in just a few hours.

  • What's the difference between permanent and semi permanent makeup?

    Absolutely nothing!

Permanent makeup is the technical term, but many artists market the treatments using 'semi permanent' as the pigment will tend to fade over the years (in most cases).

  • Do I need a consultation for permanent makeup?

    This is up to you.

If you have questions or need more information, please feel free to book a free consultation.

If you have already had permanent makeup, you may choose not to come in. If you don't want to make the trip in, let us know as we will post you a patch test.

  • If I get permanent makeup in a tattoo shop, will they use tattoo ink?

Nope. We still use cosmetic pigments. These pigments will be visible in the skin for several years (and in some cases longer).

Some artists will use tattoo ink, but we don't.

  • Does permanent makeup hurt?

Everyone has a different pain threshold, but most of my clients describe it as a light scratch or a more annoying feeling than a painful one.

I've even had several clients fall asleep, so it can't be that bad!

  • How long will permanent makeup last for?

Cosmetic tattooing is permanent- it is done by implanting piment under the skin.

The pigments that are used are designed to fade over time, but we expect pigment to be visible for several years.

There are a variety of factors that would cause premature fading. Things like UV exposure, certain skin types and using certain chemicals on your face will all make it fade faster.

We recommend getting a touch up every 12-18 months.

  • Is there a risk of infection if I get permanent makeup?

All treatments are carried out using the strictest of hygiene standards.

All of our supplies are used once and thrown away. Using disposable supplies allows us to eliminate the risks of infection from the shop.

Once done, you must treat the area tattooed as though it's an open wound. Make sure you follow the aftercare given, avoid touching it and maintain good hygiene.

This will minimise the risk of infection once you leave the shop.

  • How do I know which treatment is right for me?

Dana will work with you to establish which treatment will be best for depending on how you wear your makeup, your natural features and the look that you're going for.

  • I already have permanent makeup from somewhere else and just want a touch up. Can you do this?

    Maybe.

If the previous work is light enough and shaped well, we can do this, however as the treatment was not done by us, it will be charged as full price.

If the work is too saturated or too dark, we may not be able to work with it and will recommend removal.

  • When should I get permanent makeup done?

If you want to get permanent makeup done before a special occasion, you should get it as far ahead as possible. The true colour is not seen for 4 weeks after the treatment. While healing, you will also go through a scabbing stage, which is different for everyone.

If you are going on holiday where you will be swimming, etc you should do it at least 2 weeks before (enough time for the scabbing to be healed), but it's recommended to wait until after you come back if you can't book it earlier.

  • Can I get permanent makeup if I am pregnant or breast feeding?

Sorry, no. This is a precaution we take and won't make any exceptions.

  • Why is there a consultation?

The consultation can be done in shop, online or by telephone. We understand that you may not live local and so want to minimise your travelling time.

We do consultations to ensure that you understand the process and treatment in full before your appointment. You can ask all of the questions you need. I'll get an idea of the look you want and make sure that you are aware of the healing process and what to expect.

You will also be given a patch test to ensure that you have no sensitivity or allergic reaction to the pigments. It's quite rare to be allergic, but as my mom always says 'better safe than sorry'.

If you want to get an idea of the shape of your new brow, we can map out one of them so you can try it out.

  • How long is the appointment for?

Appointment slots range from 15-20 minutes for a consultation to 2-3 hours for eyebrows, lips or eyeliner.

  • Can I bring someone with me?

    Sure! But please, no children.

  • Is parking available?

There is no street parking unless you are a local resident. There is a Tesco that offers 1.5 hours of free parking.   After this you will need to pay.
