How to Tint/ Dye your Brows at Home

Dana Depta • Feb 10, 2021

It's easier than you think!

You can save tons of money from doing some salon treatments in the comfort of your own home.

If you have light coloured eyebrows or sparse eyebrows, you might find that dying/ tinting them is a great way to get definition and fullness. But it can seem like a daunting task if you've never done it before.

With salons closed and wallets being a bit smaller, we are looking for ways to be a bit more thrifty.  Why not tint/ dye your brows at home?

What you Need

Time: About 15 minutes

Eyebrow Dye Kit

Cotton Swabs

Cotton/ paper towel/ makeup wipe (something to wipe it off)

Optional: Vaseline

Choosing a colour

Choosing the right colour can be tricky, but always go for a shade that is a bit lighter than your brows. That way you can go darker in the future. If you go for a darker shade and don't like it, you'll have to wait until it fades out.

I use the eylure brand in dark brown. It's an easy to use kit and is very reasonably priced.

How to Tint/ Dye

  1. Open up the pack and read the instructions (yes, I know it's boring, but better safe than sorry).
  2. Perform a sensitivity test. I know that 'you'll be ok', but this is your face and if you have a sensitivity, it's not gonna be pretty (literally).  An allergic reaction will send you to the hospital (or worse). Don't assume that it will be ok.
  3. 3. Mix the colour paste and the liqui activator in the little tray provided. This should resemble a paste like consistency.
  4. 4. Using the spoolie (mascara wand), brush the dye into the eyebrow hair. Remember, this will dye your skin too, so any mistakes should be wiped off. If you're especially clumsy or new at it, you can use Vaseline outside of the hairline to avoid getting dye onto the skin.
  5. Correct any mistakes by wiping off with a wet cotton swab.
  6. Leave on for the time instructed (this will vary for different brands). Do not leave on longer than reccommended as it can cause harm to the skin.
  7. Wipe off with cotton or a paper towel.
